Located midway between Boulder and Denver, Broomfield is a peaceful bedroom community where 74,112 residents enjoy a strong sense of civic pride, top-rated schools, and spectacular outdoor space. With an exceptional trail system and centerpiece rec center, it’s no surprise that Broomfield was named among 2021’s Healthiest Communities by U.S. News & World Report. Many well-known brands are headquartered here, including Crocs and Noodles & Company, while tech firms, such as Lumen and Oracle, are among the area’s largest employers. Railroads were integral to the development of this Front Range community where three major railways had converged by the late 1800s. Sorghum, also known as broomcorn, is credited with inspiring the name of the city, which was incorporated in 1961. By the 1990s, years of annexation had spread Broomfield’s city limits across four separate counties, presenting immense administrative challenges. The city sought to create a consolidated city-county arrangement, and in 2001, Broomfield County became the state’s smallest county. Broomfield offers an assortment of homes to choose from, ranging from stunning multimillion-dollar estates on huge lots to nicely priced condominiums and townhouses. What to Do & See:
  • Paul Derda Recreation Center: The centerpiece of Broomfield’s excellent civic offerings is the Paul Derda Recreation Center, an 85,000-square-foot facility built in 2004. Visitors to this world-class center enjoy an exceptional indoor aquatic park, a massive gymnastics center, state-of-the-art cardio and strength training areas, and a kid zone with an indoor playground, childcare and a licensed preschool.
  • The Broomfield 100: Kicking off on National Trails Day in June, the Broomfield 100 challenges participants to log 100 miles on the area’s extensive trail system. The online Broomfield 100 passport guides residents through the many local paths and loops, indicating points of interest, wildlife viewing areas and helpful facilities throughout.
  • The Bay Aquatic Park: Nestled alongside Broomfield Community Park and Brunner Reservoir, this seasonal water park features several different types of water slides, a large pool and an interactive water play structure, plus a designated tot pool and sprayground. Concessions, pavilions and picnic areas make this the perfect summer gathering place.
